Running in Malaysia has developed from an exercise simply to help one lose weight to a cultural revolution that has helped bond communities with similar interests and goals. Running with a running club is seen as more than just a group workout but a social movement which merges beginners, novice and competitive runners alike to come together and share their expertise, receiving training or race advice, to get inspired and develop long lasting friendships.
Robin Arzon, marathoner and author of “Shut Up and Run” even encouraged “to dabble in group runs. The power of the collective pushes you to demand more of yourself. Whether you are mentoring another runner or they are pushing you to run faster, you will grow.”

We have listed 12 running clubs in Malaysia that organises FREE weekly runs and open for public participation.
1. KYSERUN KREW
Kyserunkrew Running Club organises weekly runs every Tuesday, 8.30 pm, rotating between Petronas station, Hartamas, Bukit Kiara, and Bukit Damansara Community Centre. Covering an average of 6km to 8km per session. Runners are divided into 3 groups, Tigerwolves (pace 4.30 and below), Panthers (Pace 5.30 – 6.30), Felix (6.30 and above,suitable for beginners). Each group will be lead by a pack leader. This is so everyone trains according to their physical level and speed.

3. NAKED SPIRIT RUNNERS
With the motto “Run Without Limits”, Naked Spirit Runners is a growing running group with a strong ultra running unit, however you need not be an ultra runner to join. Training sessions are held every Thursday’s at 8.30. Rotating between 2 locations every 2 weeks – Petronas, Sri Hartamas and LHDN, Jalan Duta. They do however occasionally switch routes to spice things up.

4. ALAM DAMAI RUNNERS
Alam Damai Runners are a running group that invites you to make new friends and even share the pain together. For runners located in nearby areas (Taman Connaught, Len Sen, Taman Bukit Cheras, Bandar Tun Razak, Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Permaisuri, Taman Suria Jaya, Sg Besi, Bandar Tasik Selatan etc). Training sessions are usually held on Tuesday nights, and includes, interval training, LSD, hill simulations, Fartlek sessions and more.

5. SHAH ALAM RUNNING CLUB
Established in 2015, Shah Alam Running Crew will challenge your limits, with the hashtag #flatsisboring, you can be assured that some hill action is bound to take place. The group organises runs at Dataran Padang A, every Wednesdays, at 8.30pm. Covering an average of 10km per session. The group also hosts Fartlek sessions to work on your speed. 6. NEW BALANCE RUNNING CLUB (NBRC)
The NBRC aims to connect people through running. The running club hosts weekly sessions, which are usually held on Saturday mornings. Training sessions include, fun runs (5km), tempo runs, LSD’s and more! Locations change monthly so do follow their Facebook group for updates and to register as a member.

7. MONT KIARA RUNNING CLUB (MKRC)
The MKRC consists of a group of KL residents, who range from runners just wanting to clock in some mileage, to those who often compete in race events. Compared to other running crews on the list, MKRC is not suitable for beginners, runners who intend to partake have to be able to follow a pace of 5:00m/km and ~6:30m/km. Wednesday road runs start at 8.30pm, covering an average of 8km to 10km around the Mont Kiara/Hartamas area. Sunday runs start at 7am, where members will either run 20+km LSDs or follow the Wednesday menu. The group also organises trail runs on Thursdays. 8. PUMA NIGHT RUNNING CLUB
Ignite your night runs with the Puma Night Running Club. Established in Dec 2013, you need not be a PUMA owner to run with this group. The group organises runs on Wednesday nights at Desa Park City, starting between 7.15-8.30pm. Sessions vary weekly and include, distance run training, tempo run, Fartlek, speed sessions and more!
9. ALOHA RUNNING CLUB
Organised by founders of the Aloha Cycle Club, the running club mostly consists of cycle club members and their family members but is open for FREE to the public. The group gathers at the entrance of the Aloha Cycle Club, (located at Plaza Damas) every Sunday and start running at 7.30am. Covering a distance of 3km-5km per session.

11. TEAM TREXIMO
The Johor Bahru running club aims #toinspireandtobeinspired. The running crew often hosts their “Run The Town” sessions every Tuesdays at 8.30pm starting from Nongchik Riverside (in front of Mcdonalds). The group welcomes runners from all running backgrounds, and hosts LSD sessions at least twice a month.

12. UNDERGROUND RUNNERS
Established in 2015, the group is divided into groups based around Sarawak, mainly Sibu, Miri, Kuching & Bintulu. Those based in Kuching can join their weekly Wednesday sessions at 7.30pm, starting at the Civic Centre Carpark.
