We Asked Female Football Fans To Weigh In On The World Cup

We got serious and asked these ladies to give their insight on this years "Most Beautiful Game"

Alas, The World Cup 2018 is drawing to a close and it was definitely unpredictable, exciting and perhaps heartbreaking depending on who you support. As the world debates on who will take home the coveted trophy... ( Are you TEAM FRANCE or TEAM CROATIA?) and eventually re-adjust their body clocks back to their normal everyday routine *yawn*! We spoke to some of our female die-hard football fans and had them give their thoughts on who will has improved, who needs massive improvement *cough*Germany*cough* and which player they felt performed the best during the World Cup.

Disclaimer: Interview was carried out during the quarter final period. Results and insight below was made prior to the semi-finals

1. Which is your favourite team?

I don’t have a particular favourite team, I enjoy watching the world cup and football as a whole. Although I do find myself rooting for the underdog

2. What are your thoughts on this years' World Cup?
I think it has certainly been an eventful world cup, with a number of the big teams like Germany, Argentina and Spain being knocked out. Teams once deemed ‘smaller’ like Japan, kinda stepping up to the plate a little.

My main observation though is that there is more of an equilibrium now in football globally, with players from all over the world playing in highly competitive football leagues, this has resulted in strong display of football from what were once deemed the smaller teams. I mean Morocco for example were fantastic. I think the score lines also reflect this, aside from Panama and Saudi Arabia, you see the bigger teams struggle to beat the so called smaller teams i.e Argentina vs. Iceland

3. Who do you think has a good chance of winning the World Cup?
I think because of pedigree maybe France. Brazil maybe (if Neymar stopped being such a baby and started to play some football). I suppose I’d like to see Belgium and Croatia in the mix as well.

4. Which team do you think has improved or needs to buck up. Why?
Improved: Japan. Croatia (they didn’t have a great qualifying, but have stepped up at the world cup, although they could improve their penalty taking!). Belgium look much better than their last showing.

Buck-up : Germany, Argentina, Spain.. so much depth in squad and talent but such inefficient and boring football.

5.Who was your standout player? Why
Oh there were a few...
1. Takashi Inui from Japan great talent and work rate.
2.Carlos Vela one of, if not Mexico’s best player at the World Cup.
3. Kylian Mbappe I think we’re going to be seeing a lot of this speedy young man. I’m hoping he becomes the next Thiery Henry who was always delightful to watch.
4. Luka Modric, quiet, understated but one of the best midfielders in the world for sure.

1. Which is your favourite team?
Don't really have a favourite team this year cause performances of every team are rather inconsistent to me but as of now, at this stage, probably France for their talented young players.

2. What are your thoughts on this years' World Cup?
Feels like it’s the year for the underdogs.Big teams like Germany and Spain didn’t perform well at all, lacked team chemistry when playing and were eliminated in the earlier stage.

Plus I think the new technology, VAR (Video Assistant Referee) has had a big influenced on the games, although there are mixed reviews of the usage. Some critics saying  that it disrupts the momentum of the game. However, in my opinion, VAR could be a good thing. Say a referee were to miss an event during the match, the manager/team can request for a VAR review. The only issue is that it’s up to the referees discretion on whether or not to refer to the VAR, this caused alot of disruptions during the game ie longer penalties.

3. Who do you think has a good chance of winning the World Cup?
Probably Belgium cause they have the most consistent performance throughout the world cup so far (Note: Interview was carried out during the Quarter Final stages. Belgium were eliminated in the semi finals)

4. Which team do you think has improved or needs to buck up.
France needs to improve their gameplay as they have the potential to win the world cup but not with inconsistencies in their defensive backline

5. Who was your standout player?
Kylian Mbappe (France). One of the youngest player with huge potential

1. Which is your favourite team?
Germany, although they didn’t get anything right this year, from player selection to substitutions to tactics and attitude.

2. What are your thoughts on this years' World Cup?
It’s been absolutely amazing as the divide between big teams and ‘small teams/minnows’ has closed and at this point it looks like anyone can win it. The big teams for the most part haven’t been convincing at all and the smaller nations are playing/played with such heart, determination and drive. It’s been an absolutely fantastic WC so far

3.Who do you think has a good chance of winning the World Cup?
At this juncture I would say France or Belgium, if they show up and play the kind of football they are capable of.

4. Which team do you think has improved or needs to buck up. And why?
Again, France and Belgium – they have the squad depth, youth, experience, speed, good coaches, basically the right combination, and if they play like how they are actually capable of, they will be unbeatable. So they definitely need to buck up to have a deserving chance of winning the WC

5. Who was your standout player? Why?
As of now, no one really, but there have been a few players who have shown brilliance – Mbappe, Vela, Inui, Isco etc but we’ll see who shows up during the Quarters and beyond.

1. Which is your favourite team?
France

2. What are your thoughts on this years' World Cup?
Extremely competitive, and we don’t even have Italy, Chile and Netherlands in the picture! Very tough road to finals for 5 world champs as they are in each other’s way. Thought that Portugal & Argentina have key man risk and have never rooted for them.  Wondered if the offense is getting better or defense/goalies is getting worse.

3. Who do you think has a good chance of winning the World Cup?
France or Belgium

4. Which team do you think has improved or needs to seriously buck up?
Croatia has improved tremendously. Whereas, Germany seriously needs to buck up.

5. Who was your standout player?
Eden Hazard.
Also special mention to the Japanese fans,  for keeping the stadium clean and picking up their trashes after matches

1. Which is your favourite team?
It was Germany but oh well.

2. What are your thoughts on this years' World Cup?
It is exciting because unlike all other previous WC's, not one team seems to dominate as a unit, so the challenge is wide open.

3. Who do you think has a good chance of winning the World Cup?
I think Brazil is on form to make it to the final and nick it. Although in knockout stages, i feel the advantage will be on any team who are good at taking and saving penalties as most matches will extend to penalties. ( Note: Brazil were eliminated in the quarterfinals)

4. Which team do you think has improved or needs to seriously buck up?
Most improved from previous edition: France. The team that needs to buck up is Germany.
I've yet to see Belgium and Croatia play - though I've heard good things. Will look forward to see them in next matches. Germany lacks leadership, was ponderous and have no urgency. It was painful to see their uninspiring performance. They deserved to lose.

5. Who was your standout player?
MBAPPE from France. He is sizzling fast.

1. Which is your favourite team?
Always England regardless of results, maybe because I'm an EPL fan, so comes quite naturally.

2. What are your thoughts on this years' World Cup?
Results so far have been great. Some crazy results really but all good!

3. Who do you think has a good chance of winning the World Cup?
Really can't put my finger on any team to win the World Cup this time. The results have blown the competition wide open. And regardless of whom teams play, everyone seems to give it their all. So really can't say.

4. Which team do you think has improved or needs to buck up.
England have improved compared to what they were in the past years. All fresh faces, manager didn't bother using any of the old guards. Great to see, this young team can only learn from each game, have done so well so far. South Korea and Japan were good as well. Credits to them for some of their sportsmanship!

Germany and Spain - need some serious changes for the future.

5. Who was your standout player?
Stand out player so far has to be Harry Kane. He's been given the task of leading out a young English team, with the expectation of a nation like no other and he has done so brilliantly. Especially when up against Colombia. It's a lot to ask of someone, and yet he proved to be the man to lead the team. So what it takes I think he's been brilliant.

1. Which is your favourite team?
Belgium or France

2.
What are your thoughts on this years' World Cup?
Typical "underdogs" are putting up a fight and won't settle. Most unpredictable world cup so far in my opinion.
I like the introduction of VAR too.

3.
Who do you think has a good chance of winning the World Cup?
Belgium looks pretty good. I want Belgium and Croatia to make it to the finals.

4. Which team do you think has improved or needs to buck up.
Think Belgium is playing really well this time around, England has pretty decent players this round too. I wish France played a bit better

5. Who was your standout player?
Mbappe of Franc
